Project Detail
Objective on the basis of need

Objectives and goals:

• Identification of available women-friendly farm/ off farm agricultural machinery for their ease in operation and adaptation.

• Identification of indicators that influence the acceptance and adoption of available and new pre and post harvest technologies.

• Capacity building of women-led group in carrying out entrepreneurial activity by adopting these farm/off-farm technologies for value addition to farm produce.

• Assessing the effect of project intervention in capacity building and livelihood security of women farmers.

Executive summary of the proposed project (In 250 words)

The project objectives more focused on enhancing technical skill and empowering women for a sustainable and energy efficient agricultural production and post-production agriculture through women led rural agricultural farm mechanization ecosystem (W-FARM) The quantifiable units for this project will be measured by no. of capacity building and skill development programs conducted, no. of beneficiaries skilled and its’ impact on the enterprises/working environment. Farm Machinery Banks developed under this project will ensure availability of required machinery at the focal point and no. of entrepreneurs benefited. Development of small Agro-processing units for primary and secondary agriculture at rural level for enhancing income, and support their livelihood through developed entrepreneurial skill with post production agri-machinery units. Overall monitoring and decision making protocol for managing the W-FARM for sustainability. The objectives are resilient, unswerving and practically feasible which are targeted to complete in the scheduled time as per project milestones.

Technology Readiness Level (If not a new project but an advancement of existing know how)

This is a new project, however, it requires interventions in popularising developed small farm women driven machineries in most places of Odisha. This interventions will reduce the farm time with use of friendly machineries. Women get extra time which can be further utilised for kitchen gardening, making value added products, compost etc. which can enrich their health as well as generate income from the additional enterprises apart from farming.

Outomes or Deliverables

1. Resource Map or Inventory of farm machinery

2. Refined/improved machinery suitable for women farmers

3. Prioritization of factors responsible for acceptance and adoption of technologies

4. Identification of knowledge gap for capacity building of farm women on usage of farm/off-farm machinery

5. Baseline information for impact of the project intervention

Project aligned with which most relevant UN SDGs Goal 1 - No Poverty
Goal 2 - Zero Hunger
Goal 3 - Good Health & Well-Being
Goal 5 - Gender Equality
Goal 8 - Decent Work & Economic Growth
Duration (In years) 3 years
Expected Impact

The project's sustainability beyond completion is built on a holistic approach that combines the creation of a Farm Machinery Bank, small-scale agro-processing units along with water saving techniques in rural village of Odisha with an aim to make it a model mechanized village. Income generation will be from the activities linked to agro-processing, alongside machinery rental fees and crop sales, providing revenue for sustainability. Long-term Community Involvement will include the capacity building programme in the form of trainings that will empower the community with the skills needed to operate machinery, manage agro-processing units, and sustain water management practices. Additionally, local committees developed by the project will oversee decision-making, maintenance and resource allocation, ensuring ongoing community involvement and commitment. They will also get a platform for knowledge sharing within the community promoting self-reliance in operating machinery and managing agro-processing units along with marketing of the agro produce. A sustainable revenue model will be established by offering machinery services to neighbouring villages, generating income to support ongoing maintenance. Income generated from the agro processing units will help them in expanding their enterprise in terms of selling of the kitchen garden produce as well as value added products. Collaborations with local businesses, government agencies, and NGOs will facilitate technical assistance and financial support. Establishing market linkages for processed agricultural products to ensure consistent income for agro-processing units. By combining these elements, the project aims to create a self-reliant ecosystem where the community actively participates, generates income, and possesses the skills necessary to ensure the long-term sustainability and prosperity of rural Odisha's agriculture and water management initiatives.
