Project Detail
Objective on the basis of need 1. Design and develop a stand alone solar PV powered cooling system 2. Design of modular scalable power conversion stages suitable for upscaling the system 3. Temperature control system design based on the product requirement.
Executive summary of the proposed project (In 250 words) Usage of renewable energy resources to meet the daily energy requirement will help to maintain the sustainability of our environment. With the emergence of new semiconductor technologies, the cost of solar PV cells are reducing day by day. This makes solar PV based renewable energy integration/usage as a common choice among many other renewable energy resources. As per the data from ministry of new and renewable energy (mnre), solar capacity increased in the last 7.5 years from around 2.6 GW to more than 46 GW. With this, India is now at 4th global position for overall installed renewable energy capacity. Solar power tariff reduced by more than 75% using plug and play model and record low solar tariff of RS 1.99/unit achieved. Most of the individuals in India are making their living with the help of agricultural activities and food processing. Stand alone Solar PV products (eg. solar PV based coolers) can be designed to improve the crop shelf life and improved food processing capability. These standalone solar PV based systems specially designed for agricultural products can be used for remote locations where the crops are harvested.
Technology Readiness Level (If not a new project but an advancement of existing know how) 7
Outomes or Deliverables Prototype of the solar PV based stand alone cooling system, Technology development in the form of hardware and software & Adjustable temperature control system
Project aligned with which most relevant UN SDGs Goal 2 - Zero Hunger
Duration (In years) 3
Expected Impact The product developed in this project can be directly applied for preserving vegetables at the source. With this, the farmers can store vegetables with more shelf life and can sell at better prices. Solar PV based coolers can be designed to improve the vegetable shelf life and improve food processing capability. These standalone solar PV based systems specially designed for agricultural products can be used for remote locations where the vegetables are harvested. This will improve food processing, reduce wastage and will benefit in improving the livelihood.
