Project Detail
Objective on the basis of need

"Impart training to selected students and NGO workers to use a) Crop models b) Climate and soil databases for local-scale climate change impact assessment. Visit the indigenous tribal communities living in the Aracode region in Nilgiri. Find ways to incorporate crop modeling in sustaining the livelihoods of the indigenous tribal."

Executive summary of the proposed project (In 250 words)

"Climate change and plants are intricately linked, and the adverse impacts of projected climate change on agriculture are well documented in the literature. Indigenous tribal communities are among the most vulnerable to climate change because their livelihoods largely depend on marginal agriculture and forest products. The main goal of this project is to bring together academics, students, and NGOs who work closely with indigenous tribal populations to exchange knowledge and develop solutions to the problems arising from long-term climate change."
